Terry was the last NL player to top the .400 mark, hitting .401 in 1930. A lifetime .341 hitter, Terry hit over .350 in four different seasons and was also considered the finest fielding first baseman of his era. Disliked by the media for his blunt answers and refusal to cater to the every whim of New York newspapermen, Terry’s induction into Cooperstown came an embarrassing 18 years after his retirement.
