In an era not known for the home run, J. Franklin Baker received the nickname for the timeliness of his home runs, more so than the frequency. Despite only hitting 96 career roundtrippers, Baker holds a unique place in history, along with teammate Harry Davis, Babe Ruth and Ralph Kiner as the only players in history to lead the league in home runs for four consecutive years (Ruth accomplished the feat twice). This glorious and highly desirable large-scale silk of Baker does show some toning and aging, probably caused by sunlight and air exposure over the years. Nonetheless, it provides a heroic glimpse into baseball’s past of one of the game’s most feared early sluggers.
