One of the few St. Louis Browns to be elected to the Hall of Fame, Bobby Wallace holds the American League record for receiving 17 chances at shortstop in a 9 inning game. He came to the Browns in 1902 after being offered a five year no-trade contract for $32,000, an unheard of amount of money at that time! After sustaining serious burns in 1914, Wallace was an American League umpire through 1916. He finished his Major League career with the Cardinals in 1918 at the age of 44.
