Steve Carlton for Rick Wise might be the worst trade in St. Louis Cardinals history. The youthful lefty, shown here, would dominate the NL for a decade and post one of the greatest seasons in history in 1972, winning 27 games for a Phillies team that was nothing short of pathetic. This rookie card glows with all the promise that Carlton showed on the diamond that year. The blacks are crushing the whites brilliant and every corner is razor sharp. You don’t see Carlton rookies this nice on the market very often. Enough said.
