The first and last cards in any set are the hardest to find in higher grades and that goes double for cards in Topps coveted 1953 set with its black, full bleed bottom border. So, to find a ’53 Topps Jackie Robinson in a NM 7 from this set is truly a treasure.
This Robinson retains significant sheen and original gloss on its surface, along with colors that capture every spectrum of the rainbow. Registration is perfect and the borders teeter between white and cream, as was typical of the set which used a lesser grade card stock than had been used during Topps 1952 inaugural set.
This Robinson card rates high on our recommend list for this auction, given societal shifts happening today and projected into the future. Finding card #1 in great condition from any set prior to 1974 is a difficult task, but finding card #1 from any set in the 1950s in high grade is a bit like finding a unicorn. But in this case, that’s exactly what we’re offering.
