Any card of the great HOF Yankee centerfielder, Mickey Mantle, is considered a ‘must’ have in the baseball collectible circuit. Now, take one of his most desirable cards, the 1956 Topps Mantle, place it in a PSA 9 holder and you have a Cooperstown worthy cardboard gem. The “Mick’s ” HOF credentials are countless including 536 home runs, 3 MVPs, 12 Pennants, 7 World series victories, a record for World Series Home Runs (18), and a Triple Crown season in 1956. Coincidently, it is his Triple Crown season that this card was issued in, justifying the desirability of owning the 1956 Topps Mantle. The card itself is a perfect masterpiece, leading one to believe what does a ‘10’ have that this ‘9’ falls short on (to date, there are only four Gem Mint 10 PSA encapsulated ’56 Mantle’s of a total 6,643 that have been graded). Mantle’s classic portrait and fielding images are perfectly registered, with snow white borders, razor sharp edges, perfect corners and centering combining to create an un-improvable card. Simply put, one of the best cards ever produced by any card manufacturer that has been preserved for over 50 years in its original “out of the pack" condition. Add the fact that it arguably depicts the player most commonly associated with our hobby, and you have a “cream of the crop” collectible.
